The equipment we examine your eyes with
Each machine answers a different clinical question. Here is what we have and what it is for.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
A cross-section of the retina and optic nerve down to the micron. This is the test that finds glaucoma and macular disease before the patient notices any vision loss.
Fluorescein angiography
Studies retinal circulation using a contrast dye. Essential in diabetic retinopathy and vascular occlusions.
Visual field analyzer
Maps the full field of vision. The standard follow-up test in glaucoma.
PENTACAM
A three-dimensional map of the cornea. It determines who is genuinely a candidate for laser vision correction and detects early keratoconus.
Topolyzer
High-resolution corneal topography for planning customized treatments.
Pachymeter
Measures corneal thickness, which is essential both for interpreting eye pressure and for refractive surgery.
Specular microscope
Counts the cells of the corneal endothelium before cataract surgery or a transplant.
Interferometry and biometry
Calculate the intraocular lens implanted during cataract surgery.
Ocular ultrasound
Lets us see inside the eye when a dense cataract or a hemorrhage blocks the direct view.
Fundus camera
Photographs the back of the eye so changes can be documented and compared over time.
Argon laser
Treats retinal tears and diabetic retinopathy without surgery.
YAG laser
Clears posterior capsule opacification in the office and performs iridotomies in glaucoma.
